Trump Roasts NATO After Iran Operation Succeeds: ‘We Did It Without You’

President Donald Trump roasted NATO on Tuesday after the conclusion of the US-Israel military campaign against Iran, telling the alliance plainly that America had succeeded without its help. He shared his assessment on Truth Social before addressing reporters in the Oval Office, where he called NATO’s decision to stay out of the operation a “foolish mistake.” Trump said he was “disappointed” but unsurprised by the allies’ refusal to engage.

Trump’s longstanding argument that NATO is a lopsided arrangement has been a cornerstone of his foreign policy worldview. He has consistently contended that the United States funds and protects European nations that then decline to reciprocate when American interests are at stake. Tuesday’s statements represent the most direct expression of that view in the context of a live military operation.

The President said the campaign against Iran had achieved results of historic proportions, including the elimination of the country’s navy, air force, radar networks, and anti-aircraft defenses. He further claimed that Iranian leadership had been removed at virtually every level of government and military command. Trump described these outcomes as a permanent resolution of the threat posed by Tehran to American allies and global stability.

If these claims are borne out by evidence, the geopolitical implications for the Middle East would be enormous. A militarily neutralized Iran with its leadership eliminated would fundamentally alter the region’s strategic landscape. Trump appeared to see this outcome as a defining achievement of his administration.

NATO allies now face the challenge of crafting responses to Trump’s latest attack without further destabilizing an already fraught relationship. The coming weeks will reveal how allied governments choose to engage with Washington on these issues. The alliance’s long-term trajectory depends on how well it manages this critical moment.
